Ripley’s Got Some Unkind Words For Alien Vs. Predator—And Even More Alien News!

By all accounts, the first Alien Day was a resounding success. In addition to various events and online tributes (including our own little Alien history lesson), an unusual abundance of Alien merchandise went on sale, selling out even faster than expected. There was one point of conflict, but it seems it might have been based on a slight misunderstanding. Reebok was scolded online for making its Alien Stomper shoes (worn by Ripley onscreen) exclusively available in male sizes. Reebok has since released a statement, claiming that the shoe was mis-categorized on their American website. In any case, all 426 pairs sold out in 40 minutes—though some are still available (for wildly inflated prices) on eBay.

To celebrate Alien Day, Sigourney Weaver attended an Alien event, only to have a fan put a damper on things with a question about the dreaded Alien vs. Predator movies. “Well, I haven’t seen them because I heard that the Alien doesn’t beat the Predator and I thought, ‘f**k that,’” she said before offering some thoughts on her Alien future. “When Neill Blomkamp started to talk to me about a sequel to this movie, I thought, ‘Gosh, that would be so great, to know that Ripley has a resting place eventually, and wouldn’t it be great to end the series like that.’ Not that the other two didn’t happen. I love them all.”

Before we get a chance to see that movie, Ridley Scott will revisit the franchise next summer with Alien: Covenant, a sequel to his 2012 Alien prequel (Prometheus). In honour of Alien Day, Fox offered a kind of indirect sneak peak of that film, in the form of this crew patch:

Alien: Covenant arrives in theatres August 4, 2017. Before that happens, you’ll have one more chance to celebrate Alien Day—when it returns on April 26, 2017.
