Dr. Okun’s Back From The Dead In This New Clip From Independence Day: Resurgence
There isn’t much need to tease clues about the new Independence Day movie: either you want to see aliens destroy international landmarks or you don’t. However, as we’ve already touched upon, fans of the original have many unanswered questions to address going into this summer’s sequel. If you’re looking for a head start, you should probably take a look at the new clip from Independence Day: Resurgence.
In this clip, a group of officials—including President Whitmore (Bill Pullman)—gather around some monitors, as a group of aliens unleash maniacal screams. Eventually, a slightly dazed Dr. Brackish Okun (Brent Spiner) enters, offering a distressing clarification: the aliens are actually celebrating. While you may remember the onscreen demise of Dr. Okun, this clip suggests he was actually in a coma—for a really long time.
Speaking to Yahoo Movies at last month’s CinemaCon, Spiner joked about his character’s unlikely return. “It is the resurgence of Dr. Okun, that is why they call this movie Resurgence, that is the whole idea,” he joked, before playfully scolding fans for jumping to conclusions. “They always jump to, ‘You must be dead’ if you’re laying on the ground. But they’re wrong. I’m back, I’m alive, I couldn’t be happier. I hope everyone else is, but no one more than me.”
Expect more Independence Day updates in the weeks to come, as we brace ourselves for the June 24 release/invasion. In the meantime, get a taste of the impending destruction in the new extended trailer below.
