The Latest Ghostbusters Cast Addition Will Slime You With Delight
There’s been a lot of Ghostbusters talk lately—some of it exclusively at MTV News, and some of it in direct response to that talk—and most of it is so incredibly exciting, we all feel like Slimer at a New York hot dog cart when we read it.
But so far, no amount of talk has been as exciting as this. While we already knew about Dan Aykroyd’s cameo in Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters film, one other crucial actor’s participation was still up in the air.
Yes, Bill Murray—Dr. Peter Venkman himself—has reportedly signed on to appear in the film, multiple outlets are reporting. It’s unclear if he’ll indeed reprise Dr. Venkman, a founder of the original Ghostbusters squad, or play a new role altogether. Murray joins the new cast of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon (oh! and Chris Hemsworth) for the film due out in July 2016.
This ridiculously exciting news comes about a month after Murray spoke to MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con about the film and said he believed it would be “a great success.” Now, with his own presence to tie the film even more deeply to its original 1984 incarnation, that seems like an understatement.
In the (slightly abridged) words of Ernie Hudson, “When someone asks you to be in the new Ghostbusters film, you say yes!” Welcome aboard, Bill.
